New Marina Promises the World
by

We received this press release from Ocean World Marina, and have already spoken to several vessels planning to visit the marina this winter when it opens.

For Immediate Release:

The north shore of the island of Hispañola, shared by Haiti and the Dominican Republic, will see its first full service marina open in December 2005. Ocean World Marina, located in Cofresi just 3 miles west of Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, will be a state-of-the art marina facility strategically positioned between the heavily traveled Florida/Bahamas region and the Puerto Rico/Eastern Caribbean region. Ocean World Marina will fill this large 300-mile void where no full service marina currently exists.

The government of the Dominican Republic has recently enacted legislation that will cancel previously prohibitive port of entry regulations.

Construction is 80% finished on the 35-acre complex that features 83 Wetslips + 2700 ft. of sidetie up to 250 ft. LOA, an entrance depth of 16’ and an average basin of 12’ throughout. This full service marina will be a port of entry with immigration/customs services, laundry and shower facilities, food/liquor store, car rental service, and marina store with fishing supplies. The Dominican Republic boasts prices far lower than its Caribbean neighbors.

Each slip will be completely serviced with cable TV, R/O potable water, electricity, internet access, 24 hour security and telephone. In addition to gas and diesel the fuel station also supplies lube oils, potable water, ice, sewage pump-out and oily waste disposal facilities. Furthermore, Ocean World Marina will be home to a boatyard with a roofed dry rack storage for over 200 boats up to 35 feet. Bottom scraping and painting services will also be available.

This is not all; Ocean World Marina will have an entertainment clubhouse with swimming pool, nightclub, casino and first class dining facilities. There are two large hotels on Cofresi Beach within 300 yards of the complex.

Ocean World Marina is scheduled to host large fishing tournaments due to virgin fishing territory teeming with marlin, tuna, and other large game fish.

Ocean World Marina is adjacent to the famous Ocean World Adventure Park, the newest and largest marine park attraction in the Caribbean that opened amid high accolades on April 22nd, 2004. The park features a variety of marine and wildlife interactive programs from dolphins, sea lion shows and encounters, tropical reef aquarium, stingrays, shark tank, rainforest, and the Tiger Grotto where you can feed Bengal tigers through a feeding hole in a glass window! There is also a private beach, restaurants, lockers, and other support facilities including the largest gift shop on the north coast, a photo lab and video services.

The nearby town of Puerto Plata, with an abundance of hotel rooms and recreation opportunities that include golf, fishing, scuba diving, horseback riding, and even white water rafting, is already celebrated as an affordable Caribbean vacation playground. Puerto Plata's airport (POP) is a 25 minute drive that has daily flights serviced by American Airlines, other airlines from Miami, NY City, and cities in Europe via international charter companies.

Both Ocean World Marina and Ocean World Adventure Park will be operated by a sister company of the exclusive Treasure Cay Hotel Resort & Marina and the highly respected Dolphin Encounters marine park at the Blue Lagoon Island in the Bahamas. Upon completion, Ocean World Marina, combined with the famous Ocean World Adventure Park and the exciting amenities the Puerto Plata region has to offer, will be a truly unbeatable boating destination.

For additional information, photos, and rates, contact Ocean World Marina.

Please visit Ocean World Adventure Park & Marina in October 2005 at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, February 2006 at the Miami Boat Show and March 2006 at the Seatrade Cruise Ship and Super Yacht Convention.

The marina’s phone number is (809) 970-7987. We strongly urge you to call them to check the marina’s status if you’re planning on stopping. Ocean World Adventure Park looks like it’s worth the stop—they have a Bengal Tiger feeding tank (and let’s hope the tigers stay in their cages), an aviary of exotic birds, a tropical rainforest, sharks and dolphins and much more.

Whether or not Ocean World will deliver on its promises remains to be seen, but so far it looks like a classy operation.
