Nobeltec announced the release of the latest version of their popular Visual Navigation Suite (VNS) and Admiral navigation software at the Annapolis Sail and Power Boat Shows two weeks ago. Bluewater, of course, was among the first distributors to carry the new software, which is being demonstrated in the store. The release of this new software has been strategically timed for Boat Show Season. Next weekend, during the Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show, Bluewater’s Electronic Chart Department Crew will be demonstrating VNS 8.0 at the show and in the store. Version 8.0 has new features that improve situational awareness and communication, including Camera/Video display for DirectX enabled cameras, Place-Name search capabilities, Digital Selective Calling (DSC) functionality, NOAA ENC support and an integrated SkyMate communication solution. In addition, Admiral 8.0 has all the functionality of VNS, plus new extended features like Multi-Radar support, InSight Sounder over the GlassBridge Network and Camera/Video display for up to 4 cameras. Shepard Tucker, Nobeltec’s General Manager, says: "These features make VNS and Admiral 8.0 powerful partners for the recreational boater, providing the user more options for voyage planning and navigation." 8.0 contains a number of enhancements that Nobeltec users asked for during the last Boat Show Season. DSC-equipped marine radios provide vessel tracking for both DSC polling and distress calls. Nobeltec software will display another vessel’s returned position information on the navigation chart. "We’ve added AIS target tracking to our popular VNS. Coupled with our new AIS100 receiver, this is a perfect package for the coastal boater," says Nobeltec Product Development Manager, Mark Fordice. Nobeltec Admiral is a more powerful program than VNS, and might be more appropriate for a large yacht or commercial vessel. Admiral has all of the power of VNS, but with advanced features such as multiple-monitor support, multiple radar support, comprehensive MARPA and AIS target tracking, multiple camera/video display, GlassBridge Network support, vessel scaling and the exclusive NavView user interface. Both versions are available at Bluewater Books & Charts, and upgrades are available if you have an older version of VNS or Admiral.
