Chub Cay Marina Scheduled for Re-Opening
by

Chub Cay, located at the tip of the Berry Islands in the Bahamas, has always been a prime fishing location. It sits on the edge of the Tongue of the Ocean, a stretch of deep water bordered by the Berry Islands, New Providence and Andros. Cruising sailors have been drawn to Chub over the years because it's a prime place to clear customs and wait for weather, and divers and fishermen are drawn for the reefs and the fishing grounds.

The marina, which is only 125 miles from South Florida by boat, formerly had 96 slips. Now it is being rebuilt to accommodate up to 200 yachts.

When the marina re-opens on June 15, over 100 slips will be available. Transient rates are posted on the marina's website at $3.50 per foot per day during peak season, and $2.50 during the off season (August 16 through November 14).

Kaye Pearson, chairman of Chub Cay Club Associates, the development firm that is redeveloping the islands, said in a press statement: "The marina is truly the heart and soul of Chub Cay where sportfishermen and yachtsmen alike from around the world have gathered and socialized for decades. We've taken great care in preserving the warm and welcoming atmosphere, while significantly upgrading the quality and capacity (of the marina)." The marina is managed by International Marinas, another company in which Pearson is involved.

For more information about the marina, please visit their website or call the marina at 242-325-1490. If you plan on visiting the Berry Islands, Bluewater recommends the Explorer Chartbook of the Near Bahamas for navigational coverage.
