Newport to Bermuda,
Safely Preparations are underway for the Centennial Newport to Bermuda Race this summer. The race doesn't start until June 16, but you can rest assured that there are many events to look forward to between now and then. The race is hosted by Cruising Club of America (CCA) and the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club (RBYC), and the first event leading up to the race will be a Safety at Sea Seminar at the Hyatt Goat Island, Newport, RI, on March 11 and 12. Speakers on Saturday, March 11, will include seamanship and history author John Rousmaniere, and the captain of the legendary super-maxi Mari-Cha IV, Jef d'Etiveaud. The event goes on all day, and offers participants the opportunity to talk one-on-one with the panelists and vendors. Saturday’s curriculum is a sanctioned US Sailing Safety at Sea Seminar. |

Sunday’s session is highly recommended but not required for US Sailing certification. It features an expanded Medical Seminar narrated by CCA Fleet Surgeon, Edwin G. Fischer, MD and a Race Preparation Session hosted by the Race Organizing Committee. Speakers will include BROC Technical Committee Chairman Bill Langan, Practical Sailor Editor at Large Nick Nicholson, and the Exec VP of North Marine Group, Jay Hansen.
