Since our last newsletter, Bluewater has been to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the SSCA Annual Gathering, and the Miami Book Fair International. It's been a busy two months! But we expect this time of year to be the busiest, and we've been ready for it. At our Third Annual E-Nav Update on November 1, which we co-sponsored with The Triton, we got the chance to see some of our captain and crew friends from the large yachts that are now in Fort Lauderdale preparing for their winter voyages to the Caribbean. At the event, representatives from Nobeltec, UKHO, MaxSea, C-Map and Navionics were on hand to talk about the latest developments in electronic charts and navigational software. Call and ask to speak to one of our electronic chart experts if you have any questions about the latest data! Later this week, Justin and I will fly to St. Maarten for the 3rd Annual St. Maaten Charter Yacht Exhibition. We plan to pound the piers, visit current customers, and tell people about our new Large Yacht Services. Justin is also scheduled to present on Electronic Navigation, and we're hoping he draws a crowd similar in size to the one he drew at the SSCA Gathering in Melbourne, FL, where approximately 100 cruisers listened intently to his advice on electronic navigation. After St. Maarten, i will fly to Antigua, where Vivien and I will attend the 45th Annual Antigua Charter Yacht Show. We have several new additions to our crew in Fort Lauderdale. Alex Cepero started working in the Electronic Chart Department right before the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, and his Cuban background will enable him to work closely with some of our Latin American customers. He has taken classes in marine electronics at McFatter Institute, and is easily learning the ropes at Bluewater. In our Book Department, Mary Sheridan joined nearly a month ago. She has lived aboard and is familiar with the boating lifestyle, and is a welcomed addition! Also, Ric Antey has re-joined the Book Department as Purchasing Director, so he will be taking on many purchasing responsibilities. We hope that these additions to our crew will help us serve our customers better in the upcoming busy season! With the end of November, we're breathing a collective sigh of relief that another hurricane season has passed us by. Thinking of hurricanes brings to mind John Kretschmer's new book, At the Mercy of the Sea, which was recently published by International Marine. It is the true story of three sailors who lost their boats and their lives in Hurricane Lenny in 1999, and it's a heart-wrenching but well-told tale. About seventy people gathered in our store on October 18 to hear Kretschmer talk about the book, and it's been flying off the shelves. Happy Holidays to all! John Mann In this Issue: Arrested
