The Bluewater Christmas List
by

Spending Christmas on the water is a treat for many reasons. We've decided to list some of our favorites for you.

Reason # 1. You can give these five DVDs as gifts…list compiled by Lisa Koss

20,000 Leagues under the Sea
This is a brilliant Disney retelling, starring Kirk Douglas, Paul Lukas, Peter Lorre and James Mason as Captain Nemo. This film will keep you glued to your seat from beginning to end.

Captain Ron
A fun movie all the way through. This movie stars Kurt Russell and Martin Short. A fun sailing movie filled with wonderful characters that will remind all of someone they have met along the way.

Popeye
A great cartoon but a greater film, starring Robin Williams as Popeye the Sailor Man and Shelly Duvall as his sweetie, Olive Oyl. This movie will have you rolling with laughter.

White Squall
This is a thrilling high seas adventure that quickly turns to survival. Starring Jeff Bridges, this pulse pounding film will keep you on the edge of your seat.

 Jaws
Staring Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss, Steven Spielberg's terrifying blockbuster is one of the most brilliant, enduring action-suspense movies of all time. Relive the hunt for the great white in this special 30th anniversary edition, packed with exclusive bonus features and an all-new commemorative photo journal.

Reason # 2. You can spend the Holidays in one of these awesome places along the ICW…list compiled by Melanie Neale. Click on the links to view the best charts for these areas.

The Anchorage at Wrightsville Beach, NC
If you're heading south for the winter, Wrightsville Beach is a great place to spend Thanksgiving. You can catch one of the season's first boat parades on November 26 this year: The North Carolina Holiday Flotilla. Just be sure to anchor out of the channel and be mindful of increased boat traffic during the parade.

Harbor Town Marina, Hilton Head Island, SC
The lighthouse may not be real, but it looks like a candy cane, and the live oaks are hung with Spanish moss and Christmas lights.

Camachee Cove Yacht Harbor, St. Augustine, FL
The new restaurant, Kingfish Grill, sits right out in the marsh, and has a spectacular view and even better food. The marina is first-class, and the staff is even better. St. Augustine knows how to do the holidays--check out the lights on St. George's street.

Fort Lauderdale, FL
Fort Lauderdale is home to one of the biggest and best boat parades along the ICW. Each year, Winterfest draws more boats and people. This year's date is December 17. And if you come to Fort Lauderdale for Winterfest, you can stop by Bluewater for your Christmas shopping.

No Name Harbor, Key Biscayne, FL
If you're waiting to cross over to the Bahamas, this is a lovely place to visit. The anchorage is small, and costs $15 a night to use because it is part of Bill Baggs State Park. For this, you get a beautiful, safe anchorage, free pump outs, shoreside facilities, cool trails, and the excitement of being right on the edge of Miami.

Reason #3. You can give these great gifts from Bluewater…List Compiled by Melanie Neale

Astra IIIB Deluxe Sextant
The Astra IIIB has somewhat revolutionized celestial navigation. Never before has such a high quality, accurate metal sextant been available at such a low price. Over 10,000 sextants of this model have been sold in the US alone in the past 13 years. The Astra IIIB is made from lightweight aluminum alloy, which resists corrosion. It is electrically lighted by LED on the arc and drum by two standard size AA batteries (not included) and its low price, excellent optics makes it the perfect selection for beginners and professionals.

Signed Copy of Bitter End
The new Seychelle Sullivan novel from Christine Kling is ever better if you come to our store and buy a signed copy! Remember, this is only available at the store or through special phone order.

Martinique Ship's Bell Clock
This Weems & Plath classic is a gorgeous addition to the interior of the finest yacht.

Traditional Barograph
This is a very compact barograph and exceptionally well finished inside and out. Hardware is solid brass and features four chrome-plated aneroid cells and quartz drive. When you come to the store, ask to see our reading from Hurricane Wilma.

Norton Boater's Log
This is a gift they'll be able to use, and it's so economical that you won't have to wait until Christmas to give it to someone. Makes a great any-old-time gift.

Reason # 4. You get to do all kids of strange things just because you're on a boat…List compiled by Melanie Neale

Christmas Tree Aboard
Yes, this is possible. My family always has a 6' live tree in the main cabin. We did this on our old Gulf Star 47, and we do it now aboard the 53. Having pine needles in the bilge is just the price you pay.

How many lights can you string on a 28' sailboat?
This is my personal challenge for the day after Thanksgiving. While everyone else is out shopping, I'm stringing lights. Look for photos in the next newsletter!

Jimmy Buffett Christmas CD
It's Christmas in the Caribbean. Or Florida. This is another holiday tradition of mine--driving my family crazy with Buffett's Christmas Island.

Christmas Cards with boats on them!
Need I say more? Order yours fast, because we sell out every year. And don't settle for the limited selection at those other big chain boating stores. You know which ones I mean.

What goes with Egg Nog?
You guessed it. Rum.
