Happy New Year to all of our friends and customers! 2006 promises to be an exciting year at Bluewater Books & Charts and Armchair Sailor. Our crew at Armchair, in Newport, RI, is preparing for their busy season, which kicks off with the start of the Newport to Bermuda Race on June 16. Meanwhile, we're in the midst of our busy season in Fort Lauderdale. The yachts are in town, the Caribbean is bustling, and the weather is beautiful…

During 2005, we spent a lot of time focusing on our move. The transition into the bigger store at 1811 Cordova Road in Fort Lauderdale took a lot of our time and energy. The good thing is that, in 2006, we will be able to spend that time and energy on you, the customer. We're increasing our inventory every day, attending more boat shows and planning more events tailored around what you want.

On February 11, Nigel Calder will lead a seminar on navigation in our Fort Lauderdale store. You may be familiar with his Boat Owner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual. His titles include How to Read a Nautical Chart, Marine Diesel Engines, Nigel Calder's Cruising Handbook, Refrigeration for Pleasureboats, a cruising guide to Cuba and more. Our last in-store event, with Chris Parker, was packed, and we expect that this one will be as well. If you plan on attending, you may want to show up early so that you can be sure to get a seat. We're looking forward to the event, and hope to see you there.

We're counting down the days until the Miami Boat Show, February 16th-20th. Our booth will be in the Miami Beach Convention Center, on the second floor. The booth number is 2763. We will also be sharing space with Maptech at 2814. Maptech will have some great show specials. If you're planning on attending the show, we would love to see you. Stop by and take a look at all of the exciting new products we'll have at our booth, including the new edition of the Near Bahamas Explorer Chartbook. We'll be burning chips for various electronic chart plotters on site, and we will also have a variety of software to offer. We're working on our brand new catalog, which may even be ready in time for the show, so be sure to ask us about it.

If you can't make it to the show, remember that all of the items that we'll have at the show are available through mail-order or at either of our stores, so there's no need to feel left out!

Let us know what you'd like to see us do in 2006 by calling us or sending us an email at help@bluewaterweb.com. We want to hear from you. Do you have an idea for a seminar, event or panel discussion? Would you like to contribute to our newsletter? Is there a product that you can't find and you'd like us to carry? Let us know. We're here for you in 2006.

A Place for Learning
Bluewater is taking its mission statement, "We provide information for mariners," to a whole new level. Among our goals in 2006: bringing minds together, solving problems and offering a forum for intelligent discussion of marine-related topics. Nigel Calder will speak at Bluewater on February 11.
