Ordering securely

When you're ordering online, it's natural to be concerned about your privacy and about the security of your credit card.

Ordering online is not only fast and convenient, it's also extremely safe. Like many other leading merchants who do business over the web, Bluewater uses encryption to protect your credit card information so that no one can see it from the time you enter it until the time it reaches Bluewater Books & Charts.

It is unlikely that a credit card number will be stolen during a secure Internet transaction. Handing your credit card to an unknown gas station attendant, restaurant waiter, department store clerk, or rental car agent could be a significantly greater risk.

Never trust your sensitive information (name, address, credit card number, etc.) to a connection that is not secure. For instance, unencrypted email is especially vulnerable to interception. So please, don't send us any sensitive information via email.

GeoTrust: When you make a purchase on Bluewater's web site, your order information (name, address, phone numbers, credit card number, etc.) are encrypted while communicating with our web server to assure a secure transaction. GeoTrust is a certified third party that verifies Bluewater's identity throughout your secure browsing session. Only pages that need security (like your transaction and shipping information) are encrypted.

How to recognize a secure connection
A connection to a secure server (i.e., a connection that is encrypted and verified) is indicated by a whole key or a closed lock somewhere at the bottom of your web browser, depending upon the type of browser. Conversely, a broken key or open lock indicates an insecure connection. Also, the URL that appears in the window at the top of the browser will include the prefix "HTTPS://..." rather than the more common "HTTP://...".

A secure connection is necessary only on the transaction checkout pages of Bluewater's web site.

The bottom line
The idea that credit card numbers can somehow be stolen over the Internet is over-hyped. Using your credit card to buy merchandise on Bluewater's website is extremely safe.
